@sciencecafe15438 months ago I think Killers of the Flower Moon and Oppenheimer both have a great shot. They're both long films but nothing else this year seems to stand out like them. I doubt Barbie will win, especially now that I made over a billion dollars (according to Grace Randolph, the Academy doesn't like to give Best Picture to billion dollar films since they already have the prize of making so much money). Downey Jr. has an excellent shot for supporting actor. ... 6

@nyctophilex78 months ago My Best Picture predictions (not my favourite 10 movies of the year):
    1. Oppenheimer
    2. Poor Things
    3. Killers of the Flower Moon
    4. Past Lives
    5. The Holdovers
    6. Barbie
    7. Anatomy of a Fall
    8. American Fiction
    9. Maestro
    10. The Color Purple
Edit: I watched the whole video, I'd say you only missed to mention American Fiction (as it won the TIFF award). I don't count Sing as it would most likely be left for the next year (where I think it would be nominated for sure).

Then I have five that aren’t fully out of grasp but really just long shots

    14-Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse

@mannymattina37928 months ago Honestly, it's easy to predict that Barbenheimer will dominate the night, here's my prediction for the night:
Oppenheimer will win 9 oscars on 14 nominations, winning for
    Best Picture
    Best Director
    Best Actor: Cillian Murphy
Best Supporting Actor: Robert Downey Jr.
    Best Original Score
    Best Sound
    Best Cinematography
    Best Film Editing
    Best Visual Effects
Barbie will win 5 oscars on 9 nominations and will win for
    Best Original Screenplay
    Best Production Design
Best Original Song: I'm Just Ken
    Best Costume Design
    Best Makeup and Hairstyling
Other than that I predict Killers of the Flower Moon will win for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone will win her second Oscar for Poor Things, and Spiderverse will win Best Animated feature. The remaining awards I'm not sure about. Either way, the next awards will certainly be interesting.

@mgariepy428 months ago Team Oppenheimer for 10 noms: picture, director, adapted screenplay (wow what a job Nolan did adapting this book, just wow), actor, supporting actors (who will they pick from a half dozen? I’m with RDJ to even win), visual effects (with no cgi crutch!), sound, score, editing, and costume design. Out on a limb but winning: picture and director, supporting actor, sound and editing. Wishful thinking for win, Cillian Murphy. But apparently Academy doesn’t go for Irish actors. I give you last year’s best performance by an actor in a leading role, Colin Farrell. ... 1

@deenaprice15248 months ago Scorsese and Ridley are both better at drama than Nolan. Christopher does action well because of his dedication to visual presentation. His storytelling doesn't always connect. So, even though I haven't seen Killers of the Flower Moon or Napoleon yet, I'm still giving them the edge. Lanthimos only made one movie I liked, and that is The Favourite. So I'm guessing he went back to weird, unrelatable cinema with this one. ...

@seangossin48728 months ago will 2023 go down as one of the best years ever for movies? There is too many good movies coming out this year that I won't be able to watch them all
  • @
@TheCatIndeed8 months ago My prediction is that Barbie is practically a lock for winning Screenplay. When you think of many other years, the best picture nomination that wins a Screenplay award is typically the funniest. Dead Poets Society, Juno, and Little Miss Sunshine are all examples of this. It also has a lot of commentary, another great thing to get your movie the screenplay Oscar. Examples of that are American Beauty, Brokeback Mountain, and Parasite. So, basically the two things in a script that win you an Oscar are both in this movie. That seems like pretty good reasoning to predict it for the award. ...
  • @
@johnnolan55798 months ago I really think Poor Things is the front runner. Oppenheimer was good, but the third act is a bit of a drag for most people. Poor Things is getting total raves. I get a feeling we may see a split vote between director and picture. Christopher Nolan may win director, but the film isn't going to win Best Picture. ... 4

@khoohockleong75858 months ago Poor Things woud remind The Academy so much of the weirdness of The Favourite and Emma Stone was in The Favourite also. Also The Favourite has some human element in it of the queen being a lustfu lesbian as opposed to Poor Things which tak about how the ack of the human element which leads to the unsuccessful of things if one were just yo apply pure technoogy.
This also looks so much like a grankenstein movie of the 30s. The Academy yhese days want artistry vombine with the human emotion.
Neither the picture or Emma Stone woud win although both may get nominated.
    ...

@misjathecinemalover8 months ago I agree with most here, but I don’t think Saltburn is even close to a nomination. I hear someone drinks someone else’s bathwater where someone just…lets say they gave themself pleasure… which uhm- 😟
  • @
@bethd14808 months ago I believe the reason Oppenheimer will not win best picture is because I don't think the Academy likes Christopher Nolan and I can't see in this year with so many great performances, that any of the actress in it will be nominated, he doesn't do women characters very well. I think they will have a couple of the men nominated.
Poor Things, I think will depend on how the public likes it, I think it may be one that critics just love, but the general public, not so much.
I think sometimes they just nominate popular movies like Barbie, just to say that they do nominate popular films, but in the top 100 grossing pictures of all time, only two are Best Picture winners, Titanic and Lord Of The Rings.
